North-West has completed the fiber-optical link Vologda-Kotlas-Syktyvkar. The link stretches 
over the territory of Vologda and Arkhangelsk regions and the Komi Republic. The length of 
the new digital link is over 1 thousand km: 598 km in Vologda region, 200 km in Arkhangelsk 
region and 216 in the Komi Republic. 

North-West Telecom's total investment in this section of the fiber-optical link in 2005-2006 amounted to more than 300 million rubles (about US$12 million). Alcatel's telecommunications equipment has been installed on the link. Owing this fiber-optical link, the operator will significantly improve the quality of long distance and local telephony in northern regions of 
the North-Western Federal District and will get an opportunity to offer modern communications services - broadband Internet access via ADSL technology, channel lease for building corporate networks, etc - in distant areas.
