Golden Telecom has announced the start of building a fixed mobile convergence (FMC) network that combines advantages of fixed and mobile communication in Ukraine. 

The convergence network will serve as a powerful and flexible platform for launch and development of new types of communication services. By the end of 2006, Golden Telecom will have installed FMC network core in Kiev and will have created FMC network's wireless segment in Odessa, updating the corresponding GSM-1800 network. Furthermore, by the end of 2006, FMC network's wireless segment will have been deployed in cities where Golden Telecom already offers fixed communication services: Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Ivano-Frankovsk. Alcatel and Huawei partner with Golden Telecom in the FMC project. 

Alcatel supplies a new-generation soft switch and an intellectual platform FMC networks' core is being built on. Huawei provides a base station system and rapid data transfer equipment for building the wireless part of the FMC network. 

Golden Telecom intends to start offering FMC services in 22 Ukrainian regions in 2007.
